In honour of Women’s History Month, there are so many incredible women with whom I work with in WWE. I love being able to highlight the different journeys to reach their dreams and I especially love a good comeback story.
That’s why I have chosen WWE Superstar Sasha Banks for this column as she heads to WrestleMania this April to face Bianca Belair for the Smackdown womens champioship.
One of the coolest things about Sasha — which I think is very relatable to WWE fans worldwide — is that she herself grew up a fan of the sport, not unlike so many little girls who look up to her today.
I asked Sasha what it was like for her to transition from a lifelong fan to a superstar in WWE? Sasha answered: “It was and is a dream come true every day. I have crushed about every goal I’ve ever had, except to main event WrestleMania, which I plan to do this year. I’ve been with the most amazing people that will forever be my family thanks to this industry. I’ve grown into the women I always dreamt to be.” As someone who’s been embedded in this industry my entire life, I’ve seen so many different women come into WWE from all walks of life. I love the diversity that we as women share in WWE. It’s a testament that women like Sasha, Tamina, Carmella, Bayley, Ruby, Liv, Bianca, Sonya, Billie Kay and so many others can be anything they want to be. We can all be so different and make our own very special impact on the world through sports.

March is an exciting time in WWE for many reasons. The road to WrestleMania is in full swing and so is the Women’s Evolution. WrestleMania is the grandest stage of them all, and it’s an event that every single woman in WWE wants to be a part of. There is no better way to celebrate Women’s History Month in March than by putting a spotlight on the women of WWE and around the world striving to reach their dreams through sport.
Whether it’s Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Lindsey Vaughn, or the women of WWE, there are no boundaries to what women today can accomplish. This Sunday, WWE will premiere a new documentary entitled Heaven. It is a powerful story of an incredible high school athlete named Heaven Fitch. She grew up with three older brothers, who all were very involved in sports. Heaven wanted to be like her brothers and play sports, too. She played everything from baseball, soccer and then wrestling. Heaven had to overcome many obstacles on her journey in wrestling, but she defied the odds by joining the male wrestling team.
In 2020, Heaven was the best 106-pound wrestler in her state and was the first girl to win a boy’s state wrestling championship in North Carolina. What Heaven accomplished had never been done before.
The documentary on Heaven Fitch is narrated by WWE Hall of Famer and former WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix. Beth is one of my closest friends in and out of WWE, and it is only fitting that she is the narrator because her story is very similar to Heaven’s story.
