 About this Wonderful Lady!
Mini Bio: From the moment she first came before the WWE Universe, Natalya realized that competing in WWE was a gift, one she would utilize to its fullest extent. Of course, being trained in the legendary Hart Family Dungeon alongside a few famous family members didn't hurt either. Despite a profound desire to forge her own path, there's no denying that Natalya possesses the "hart" to reach new heights in the ring. Whether creating havoc as part of The Hart Dynasty, executing the family Sharpshooter or stepping out on her own to capture the Divas Championship, the fiery third-generation Diva has shown time-and-time again that the legendary Pink & Black legacy is safe in her hands. Thank you Nattie for using one of my questions once again for your Article in the Calgary Sun.

So @fadhitman asked which former female WWE Superstar inspires me most.

I am shouting from the rooftop that it would be none other than Trish Stratus!

A few weeks ago, I had the honour, for the first time in my life, of being in the same ring as Trish Stratus during the inaugural Women’s Royal Rumble Match. I couldn’t believe that I finally had the opportunity to lock horns with the seven-time WWE Women’s Champion, fellow Canadian and one of the most iconic female superstars in WWE history.

Trish isn’t just any superwoman to me, she is one of the main reasons why I wanted to become a WWE Superstar.

Growing up around the Hart family, there was never any shortage of inspiration to join the family business. In the yard at my grandfather’s house, the Hart house, we had our very own ring. The neighbours would walk down the hill, past my grandfather’s house and watch us all in the ring.

Inside the Hart home, in the basement, was the infamous “Dungeon” where some of the most amazing Superstars of all time started their careers. There were holes in the ceiling and in the walls, the result of aspiring young men honing their craft so one day they could make it big.

For me, even though I was surrounded by some of the best the WWE has ever seen, seeing Trish Stratus on Monday Night Raw made me realize that I wanted to be just like her. She was this strong, fierce, confident woman from Canada who stepped showed the world why women in WWE were a force to be reckoned with. Trish was truly ahead of her time in so many ways.

I remember watching Trish Stratus perform with a broken nose (wearing a protective face mask) and thinking how cool it was because she was so tough. I wanted to be just as tough as her. I remember watching her and Lita main event Monday Night Raw in December of 2004, something that had been unheard of to that point. Lita and Trish were not only trailblazers, but arguably two of the most influential WWE Superstars of their generation, male or female.

Five years ago, I went on a trip that would change my life. I went to the African nation of Rwanda with WWE and The United Nations Foundation.

The purpose of the trip was to meet with refugees who had fled their homes because of the genocide and fighting that was happening in neighbouring countries. We wanted to give valuable supplies to the refugees who were in hiding and to offer our support in any way that we could.

I was fortunate enough to have the company of a small crew from WWE, along with my fellow WWE Superstar Alicia Fox. I had wrestled “Foxy” (as I call her) many times before in my career, but I feel like I truly didn’t know her until we got to bond over this life-changing trip, during which we met more than 30,000 refugees.

We visited two refugee camps (Kigali and Gihembe) and met with thousands of people who were in hiding, struggling for their very survival. There was no running water, no electricity and very little food. An average hut was the size of a closet and housed as many as eight people who faced health issues and the fear of malaria, which was caused by mosquitoes that would bite them as they slept.

We brought them thousands of nets through the organization Nothing But Nets to help protect them. The nets were to be placed over their beds while they slept to keep the deadly insects at bay.

I remember first receiving the news that WWE would be having its first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble match and was I extremely excited.

Historically, the event had only held a men’s Royal Rumble match, so this was a huge step in WWE’s women’s evolution and we knew had to make the most of this moment.

As plans unfolded, it became evident that WWE was about to celebrate WWE’s female Superstars of the past, present and future like never before.

I would be getting a chance to share the ring with some of the icons I looked up to, like Trish Stratus, Lita, Molly Holly, Jaqueline, Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly, Torrie Wilson and Michelle McCool. These women helped pave the way for generations of future female WWE Superstars. The match would also feature women from WWE’s NXT brand, including Kairi Sane and NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon.

The day of the Rumble, I was so nervous. I’m usually nervous before any appearance, but this was a special kind.

There were so many incredible women that I’d be sharing the ring with; some of whom I’ve only dreamt about competing against. I had goosebumps thinking about being in the same ring as Trish Stratus, who is one of my biggest inspirations in WWE. I would also get the chance to get back in the ring with my best friend in the world, former WWE women’s champion, Beth Phoenix. I wondered what it would be like if Ember Moon and I locked horns.

My imagination was truly running wild.

Finding out who would be competing in the Rumble was just as exciting for me as it was for the WWE Universe.

it’s hard to believe it’s been one year since I started writing this column for the Calgary Sun.

Sharing my thoughts and life in this column each week has been a special experience. Ever since I was a kid I have loved writing. It has always been one of my passions.

Although I am not sure if I am good at it, I have always enjoyed it, and I was awarded the “Fifth Grade Writing Award” in elementary school. Just saying.

Writing is very liberating and therapeutic. Writing has always been an incredible outlet for me to feel like I have a voice, even when sometimes I was the only one reading my work. It has been a way for me to unlock my imagination. That’s when the world becomes yours, after all.

When I was growing up, I remember my uncle Bret “Hitman” Hart having his own column in the Calgary Sun. To me, this was beyond cool.

Not only was he WWE champion, but every Saturday his very own column was published in the paper in our hometown, often with one of his incredible hand drawn cartoons. Bret’s column was fun to read, and I always looked forward to reading it each week.

Natalya Interview With TV-Insider.com – 1/31/2018

Natalya Interview with tvinsider.com – Natalya talks of Total Divas season 7 finale and weighs in on new WWE Rookie former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and the Women’s Royal Rumble match.

Natalya on Women’s Royal Rumble

“It was surreal. It’s been something that all of us girls have been wanting to be a part of for a long time,” Natalya tells us.

“Before, we’ve only seen Chyna, Beth Phoenix and Kharma in the guys’ Rumble matches. So, for us to have enough women in both divisions and NXT come and be a part of this first-ever women’s Rumble with the women from the past who paved the way for us, it was such an honor to be a part of it.”

“Just seeing Beth lift Nia Jax up, I was watching from the floor. I was in awe of that alone,” Natalya says. “Going back in my career, a lot of people have not seen me work with Beth. I did one obscure match with her on SmackDown two weeks before she retired. We had tag-teamed a lot, so we never really worked against each other. I think it was a surprise to everyone.

“Obviously, Trish Stratus has been a huge inspiration to me. She is somebody that I, in a nutshell, idolized. I saw Trish beforehand at Raw 25. And after all the interviews I’ve done [where I’ve] spoken of her, I’ve never told her in person that more than any person in my family—including Bret Hart, Owen Hart, British Bulldog and my father Jim Neidhart and my grandfather Stu Hart—more than anyone in my family, I’d watch her on TV and wanted to be like her.

Natalya on Ronda Rousey

“Every single person has an opinion. That’s such a fun part of our job,” she says.

“My husband, Tyson, is a producer at WWE, and we always have friendly exchanges of our opinions driving in our car from town to town. Was it the right way to debut her? Should she have debuted the next night on Raw or at WrestleMania? It’s hard to know what the answer is. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Ronda as an athlete.

“To me, just seeing her backstage as a friend, I picked her up off the ground when I saw her. It’s not my place to say if it was right or wrong. The other girls and I, we all have our own opinions. We can speak our minds. It’s a free country. For me, more than anything, I was just happy to see my friend…”

Natalya on Season Finale of Total Divas

“The season finale story is powerful with TJ. One, we haven’t really shared to the world yet. It shows that when one door closes or temporarily closes—because TJ never announced a retirement; TJ has no plans of ever announcing he is retired from wrestling—another door opened with a new role that is much better for him and his health. It’s nice to share this all with the world, to show there is so much you can do in this company besides being an active WWE superstar.”
