 About this Wonderful Lady!
Mini Bio: From the moment she first came before the WWE Universe, Natalya realized that competing in WWE was a gift, one she would utilize to its fullest extent. Of course, being trained in the legendary Hart Family Dungeon alongside a few famous family members didn't hurt either. Despite a profound desire to forge her own path, there's no denying that Natalya possesses the "hart" to reach new heights in the ring. Whether creating havoc as part of The Hart Dynasty, executing the family Sharpshooter or stepping out on her own to capture the Divas Championship, the fiery third-generation Diva has shown time-and-time again that the legendary Pink & Black legacy is safe in her hands. Warren Buffet once said, “Forward is forward, no matter the pace.” I think this applies to many things in life and it certainly applies to me. A few days ago, I found myself giving my mom a pep talk on the importance of her health and wellness. What my mom didn’t know was that I was also struggling that day to get to the gym, unpack my bags, do my laundry, plan a family gathering at my house and just get motivated overall.  All I wanted to do a was stay inside my house, curl up on my couch, eat Halo Top Peanut Butter Swirl ice cream and watch reruns of The Golden Girls. Was I tired, burned out, or both?

But back to my mom.  She didn’t feel like going to her Orange Theory class (boot camp for beginners) because she felt she was so far behind everyone else around her. She said she felt older and less athletic because the teacher would always correct her on doing the exercises wrong.  I said, “Ok, so you’re not the fastest or the strongest or the most agile, but what matters is that you showed up, got started and got better in every class. Once you get moving, you’ll feel great and once that hour class is over, you’ll feel more accomplished and have endorphins for the rest of the day.”

My mom has kept it up in her classes and has lost 10 pounds! She went from slow walking on a treadmill to running with an incline. She is lifting weights with ease and even showing off in class. We went shopping the other day and she was so excited that she went down two sizes. That’s just more motivation for her to keep getting fit.  We go to these workout classes together and I get excited about our sweat sessions because I get to spend time with my mom and we get to see results together. I love seeing how much she’s improved, which motivates me to be better myself.  Also, I’ve learned that when someone else is watching me on a treadmill, I don’t want to quit, I want to show off. Sometimes showing off produces results.

Special Olympics is such an empowering organization for the thousands of athletes involved and those of us like myself who lend support to them. The Summer Games is also very important because they prove that no matter what one’s limitations are, you can set a goal and reach for the stars. It’s admirable and inspiring to see athletes training hard, staying focused and working toward a dream. I know it motivated me more with the direction of my own hopes and dreams.

Special Olympics are also about inclusion; no one gets left out.

I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of several Special Olympics events over the past few years with WWE and I’ve also joined athletes for motivational talks at both opening and closing ceremonies. I’ve coached a bocce game opposite my fellow WWE Superstar and friend Titus O’Neil. That event was so much fun especially because Titus and I had never played before so the athletes taught us a lot. Titus is hilarious; he’s so competitive and such a super athlete himself. He had his team doing his trademark bark that he does when he makes his entrance to the ring, and he couldn’t handle it when my team won!

I’ve also played basketball at the Special Olympics with Big Show. I’m still learning to play basketball myself, but I can surely say Big Show taught me the most I’ve ever learned about playing basketball that day. “Show” (as we affectionately call him at work) also proved to be such a gentle giant with the athletes, as his larger-than-life presence was overshadowed by what a teddy bear he is in real life.

When you talk about strong, empowering women, Renee undoubtedly is near the top of the list. She’s beautiful, easy going, fair, funny and always willing to listen. Did I mention she’s also one of the best on-air personalities in WWE? She’s not afraid to be different but at the same time, also be herself. Renee uses her voice to reach others, both literally and figuratively.

I didn’t have to dig very deep to get Renee to let me in on some of the secrets to her success and what she loves about being Canadian. I asked her about being a woman in WWE. She answered with, “I’ve always felt very embraced as a woman in WWE. But I’ve also been able to carve out my own niche spot within the company, which has been one of the most rewarding parts of my role here. To step up and own a space which has ultimately led to other opportunities for other women is really exciting.”

Renee has been featured on Raw, SmackDown Live, NXT and various programs on WWE Network. She’s also heavily involved in WWE’s community outreach programs like Special Olympics and Be a STAR. She told me, “There’s so much I want to do. I’d love to work on another WWE Network show, perhaps another type of interview-style show. Maybe a cooking show, or even a reboot of Tuesday Night Titans. How much fun would that be?” It didn’t take me long to tell Renee that if she was on them, I would definitely be watching!

My fourth wedding anniversary has come and gone and I could not be more proud of my relationship with my husband, TJ Wilson. In past columns I’ve written about how TJ and I balance our hectic lives in WWE. It’s not easy as we travel the world almost 300 days a year and we are in a different city, state, country, continent all year long. Sometimes I’m forced to look at my calendar to see where I was yesterday.

Many of you know TJ as “Tyson Kidd” from when he performed in the ring for WWE. Many still call TJ “Tyson” which I know he finds endearing. My nephew, Lachlan, says “Tyson is uncle TJ’s character in that WWE video game!” Which is true.

Three years ago, TJ had major neck surgery. It was a difficult time in his life because no one ever wants to be told they can’t do something. For our whole life, all we’ve focused on is beating the odds. So many people told TJ he would never be a WWE superstar and he did it. Like Nelson Mandela once said, “It’s always impossible until it’s done.” Well that’s TJ for you!

We both really learned a lot about staying strong and taking everything one day at a time when TJ went through his surgery. It is never easy when something unforseen happens in life. TJ and I have been through our fair share of ups and downs in the last few years, but I often ask myself “who hasn’t gone through tough times?” We all do

I thought I would take advantage this week to talk about my recent experience in the Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match.

I have competed in three ladder matches throughout my career, which is something I do not take for granted. I remember the first time I was in a ladder match I was extremely nervous. As awkward as it is to manoeuvre a ladder around the squared circle, there is an incredible art to “excellently executing” a ladder match. Just ask Bret (The Hitman) Hart, who was a part of the very first ladder match in WWE history against Shawn Michaels.

This year at “Money In The Bank,” the other female participants who hadn’t been in a ladder match were feeling that same pressure and anxiety as I had the year before. Everyone was excited but nervous, as we all wanted this ladder match to be a success. Sure Lana, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Naomi and Ember Moon were my opponents and my competition in the match, but it doesn’t mean I can’t pay some of my experience forward in helping them succeed, too. The first piece of advice I gave the other participants was originally given to me by legendary Fit Finlay. He suggested we research the past and watch a few other ladder matches. I went back and watched one of the most famous ladder matches of all time with Edge and Christian, The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz from WrestleMania in 2000. This match was not only innovative, but helped to show off each Superstar’s grit, determination, creativity and athletic ability. Everything they did in the match revolved around that ladder and telling a compelling story.
