 About this Wonderful Lady!
Mini Bio: From the moment she first came before the WWE Universe, Natalya realized that competing in WWE was a gift, one she would utilize to its fullest extent. Of course, being trained in the legendary Hart Family Dungeon alongside a few famous family members didn't hurt either. Despite a profound desire to forge her own path, there's no denying that Natalya possesses the "hart" to reach new heights in the ring. Whether creating havoc as part of The Hart Dynasty, executing the family Sharpshooter or stepping out on her own to capture the Divas Championship, the fiery third-generation Diva has shown time-and-time again that the legendary Pink & Black legacy is safe in her hands. Scores of Twitter followers have been asking me how it feels to finally be a WWE women’s champion! Let’s just say I haven’t slept in days and I feel great. I have been so excited. When things are good in life, it’s so important to stop and enjoy them.

This past Sunday, more than 16,128 people at the sold-out Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. — and millions more at home — witnessed the most special moment of my career, when I won the Smackdown Women’s Championship.

I shared the stage with my opponent, Naomi, who truly is one of the best women I have ever competed against in my WWE career. To say Naomi pushed me to my limits at SummerSlam would be a huge understatement. She challenged me in a way that made me grateful that I trained so hard in the Hart Family Dungeon … because everything I have worked for in wrestling led to that match against her. No pressure: only 180 countries around the world are watching on the WWE Network. Eeeek!

I can’t stop myself from replaying that moment when Naomi tapped out to the Sharpshooter and the ref signalled the end of that match, and my women’s championship drought. I was so happy that I was shaking and wanted to burst into tears when I took that title and launched it above my head.

So lost in a moment that I’ve dreamed of since I was a young girl that I almost forgot to stay in character. I am currently a “bad girl” in the WWE! I composed myself and saved the tears for when I got backstage. I also should have worn waterproof mascara, but I digress.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — World Wrestling Entertainment’s newest Smackdown women’s champion could be forgiven for spending a few moments thinking about herself for once, especially given her decade-plus-long pursuit of the big prize.

But that’s just not Natalya’s style.

Instead, mere moments after securing her place in WWE’s history books, the Calgary native was doing what comes most naturally to her, sharing her success with family.

“A lot of different thoughts were running through my head,” she said when asked about what was going through her mind in the seconds following her win. “But the first thing I thought about was my husband, TJ,” she said of her spouse and former fellow wrestler Tyson Kidd, a fellow Calgarian whose real name is TJ Wilson.

“TJ was the first person who ever trained me to wrestle. He was there with me for all of these incredible moments in my career: from the day I got hired in the WWE, from the day that I had my first match for my family in Stampede Wrestling at the Ogden Legion hall in front of 50 people and he was there for me when I got called up to the main roster… he’s been there for me through every aspect of my career. It was just a very special feeling. It was so special to be able to share that with TJ.

“I feel like I won this for both of us,” the 35-year-old said.

And while Natalya walked backstage, championship title in tow, thinking about those with whom she could share her moment in the sun, her wrestling family wasn’t about to wait for her to come to them.

“I got through the curtain and I got a standing ovation,” Natalya recalled with emotion. “Naomi and I, we really wanted to tear the house down with our match. Obviously, we’re very competitive with each other and we have a rivalry going on, but at the same time, I couldn’t have a feud or match with somebody who is more talented than Naomi. When we got back through the curtain, all of the girls from the Smackdown roster and all of the girls from the Raw girls roster — all of them — were there.”

CBC News Interview with Natalya on winning the women’s cha...

For Nattie Neidhart (aka Natalya), fight night Sunday in Brooklyn was truly a night unlike any other.

That’s because Neidhart —  granddaughter to Stampede wrestling icon Stu Hart, and niece to former world champ Bret (the Hitman) Hart — became a world champion in her own right Sunday. She won the WWE’s Smackdown women’s championship at Summer Slam in Brooklyn, N.Y.

“It was just a surreal feeling to win my first ever women’s championship,” Neidhart said on the Calgary Eyeopener.

“And to do it in front of the world … [World Wrestling Entertainment]  is in over 180 countries. Anybody that was watching Summer Slam on the WWE Network or on pay-per-view could see me win the championship. It was something I wasn’t expecting.”

‘I feel like I’m following in my family’s footsteps’

At the same time, as part of a family of wrestling champs, becoming world champ was perhaps as inevitable as it was surprising.

“I do feel like I’m following in my family’s footsteps,” Neidhart said. “We all share this passion for wrestling and the WWE, so it’s just very, very cool and surreal to carry the torch they passed me.”

Neidhart’s journey to world champ was hardly an overnight success, either — or embraced by her family, which was all too aware of the potential physical hazards a wrestler faces.

“I was the first girl,” Niedhart said. “My father was very apprehensive about me being a wrestler when I started wrestling, as my dad knows how physical it is. He used to play football and he was a shot putter. He didn’t want me to get hurt. But then, when he saw my first match, he was my biggest cheerleader.”

Neidhart received lots of helping hands, attending a wrestling school run by her uncles Bruce and Ross Hart.

She also had a conversation on an airplane with her Uncle Bret that changed her way of thinking about being part of the Hart family legacy.

Calgary Sun News Article On Natalya Winning Women’s Champi...

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Calgary’s Natalya won her first women’s championship Sunday night at an extremely entertaining WWE SummerSlam.

On the very night, she tied Toronto’s Trish Stratus for most pay-per-view appearances by a woman in World Wrestling Entertainment history, the daughter of Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart and niece of Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart was all business, defeating the Smackdown women’s champ, Naomi.

“I’m just so proud to represent the women in the WWE, and to represent the Hart family and especially Canada,” Natalya said Sunday night after her win. “It feels great to be a part of history as the new Smackdown Women’s Champion.”

Dressed in spectacular ring attire that paid homage to her iconic father, Natalya went on the offensive early and often in her match against the champ, Naomi.

It was the first women’s division championship for the Canadian, who has also held the Diva’s title in her now 10-year WWE career.

Despite her role as a heel, the sold-out Brooklyn crowd exploded when Naomi tapped out to Natalya’s Sharpshooter, while WWE brass allowed her several minutes to celebrate in the ring.

First off, it is a dream come true for me to be able to compete at SummerSlam in the SmackDown Women’s Championship match against the current champion, Naomi. Getting ready to perform in front of 15,000 rowdy fans in New York City means I’ve got my work cut out for me. I can’t wait for us to steal the show and also can’t wait to become the new Smackdown women’s champion! And what makes me feel extra inspired this year is simple — The Mae Young Classic.

WWE’s Mae Young Classic is a tournament featuring 32 women competitors from across the globe. It’s fittingly named after the legendary WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young.

Mae Young was an incredible woman who performed for over seven decades. Her first professional wrestling match was in 1939, and she continued performing until 2010! Mae was a pioneer for women’s wrestling, and throughout her career, she held all sorts of championships.

Mae knew my grandfather, WWE Hall of Famer Stu Hart, very well. Stu always supported women in the sport and said that Mae was one of the toughest women he had ever met in his life. She was as he said, “A real shooter.” To impress my grandfather in the squared circle meant that you had to be really good in the ring and have grit like no other. Mae had grit. Mae had guts. But Mae also had beauty. And her confidence in the squared circle made her the belle of the ball.

I was invited to watch the Mae Young Classic ringside, and it inspired me so much. It made me so proud to be a WWE Superstar. Seeing these women come together to compete from across the globe reminded me of my own journey and why I started in this industry. It reminded me of what fuelled my passion in the first place, when I was getting paid twenty dollars for a match but I didn’t care, as long as I was proving myself.
