 About this Wonderful Lady!
Mini Bio: From the moment she first came before the WWE Universe, Natalya realized that competing in WWE was a gift, one she would utilize to its fullest extent. Of course, being trained in the legendary Hart Family Dungeon alongside a few famous family members didn't hurt either. Despite a profound desire to forge her own path, there's no denying that Natalya possesses the "hart" to reach new heights in the ring. Whether creating havoc as part of The Hart Dynasty, executing the family Sharpshooter or stepping out on her own to capture the Divas Championship, the fiery third-generation Diva has shown time-and-time again that the legendary Pink & Black legacy is safe in her hands. For nearly an entire week leading up to Survivor Series, I was so excited to be in the match, a traditional five-on-five Survivor Series Elimination Match. I felt so much pride being a part of Team Raw as we were to face the Team SmackDown. I couldn’t wait to walk out in front of a sold out Staples Center in Los Angeles and face off against Asuka, Naomi, Carmella, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. Little did I know that my teammate Ruby Riott and I would have a backstage incident that would ultimately take both of us out of the match.

I asked myself: “What do you do when you didn’t get what you expected?” After Survivor Series this year, I did what I do best: Roll with the punches! After all, it wasn’t just me who didn’t get what I expected. I also thought about Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Ronda Rousey, even the WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar not getting what they originally expected at Survivor Series.

While several of us had to adapt to the unexpected, I can’t help but think specifically of Becky, who was scheduled to have a highly anticipated match against the Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey. Becky wasn’t able to compete in a champion-versus-champion match against Raw champ Rousey because of an injury Becky suffered during a brawl on Monday Night Raw six days earlier. Becky, the Champ on SmackDown has been on an unprecedented roll but facial injuries derailed what was expected to be a historic, if not epic, encounter. “Life is what happens when you’re making plans” as they say.

I also think back to my family, the Harts, and the many memorable moments we’ve had over the decades at Survivor Series. In 2010, I defeated Michelle McCool and Layla to win my first championship in WWE. It was a surreal feeling that all of my hard work had paid off that night in Miami.

The tour was a blast and it was so much fun competing in front of different crowds around the world. It reminds me how adaptable and versatile we are as WWE Superstars and how cool it is to see the world. The fans are different in every country, but I’ve yet to perform in a place where they’re not passionate for us. Frankfurt, Germany, was one of my favourite stops on the tour. Germany has a deep respect for the Hart family, especially Bret “The Hitman” Hart. They showed me so much love, too.

I had a chance to catch up with my fellow WWE Superstars and find out what they love about being on tour.

Sasha Banks and Bayley flew in for the tour early so they could go sightseeing in Madrid, Spain. Sasha had a bucket list of things she wanted to see and do in Madrid, such as have the “best coffee in the world” at Cafe Lito. She also had the best homemade sangria and the best octopus she ever tasted at a local Tapas Bar named El Sur.

Sasha said she enjoyed talking to the locals whom she described as “so sweet and caring. They made me feel loved. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life was the neon sunset in Madrid with Bayley. It’s an image in my mind that I’ll carry with me forever. There’s nothing like seeing the world with people that you love.”

Bayley said her favourite thing about being on tour is that “I get to meet a lot of people from different walks of life. I get to experience it with my best friend, Sasha. We went to a palace and we saw the Temple Of Debod on our way there. It was an Egyptian Temple. We weren’t allowed to go inside but just seeing the outside of it was breathtaking.”

Bayley also loved Germany and said, “In Frankfurt, they sang ‘Hey Bayley, will you be my girl?’ the loudest I’ve ever heard in unison. I felt so fired up to perform in Germany and it made me feel like the WWE Universe has my back around the world.”

I wanted to take a moment to reflect on something that has been on my mind and close to my heart. WWE participates in many outreach programs benefiting cancer research, awareness and support. From “Connor’s Cure” (supporting children with pediatric cancer) created by Stephanie McMahon and her husband Paul Levesque, to our partnership with Make-A-Wish and Susan G. Komen. I am so very proud to do whatever I can do in the fight against cancer with WWE. I have yet to meet a person who hasn’t been affected by cancer in some way, shape or form. Cancer doesn’t discriminate and in WWE, we have made it our mantra that cancer is “unacceptable.”

But sometimes, cancer hits too close to home, as it did last week with our Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.

The afternoon prior to Roman’s announcement on Raw, the day had been incredibly busy for me. I had interviews with media all morning to promote our Evolution PPV event and I was working with Sasha Banks to prepare for her match on Raw later that evening against Ruby Riott. The arena was freezing and tension was in the air.  The word backstage was that we couldn’t miss the opening of Raw, as news was going to be shared that would change the direction of the brand.  I wondered what it could be. What could possibly be such a big deal that we couldn’t miss?

Then Roman Reigns walked out on stage. Roman wasn’t wearing his wrestling gear. He was wearing a T-shirt and jeans with the Raw Universal Championship draped over his left shoulder. Roman looked pensive, maybe even a little nervous. I wondered again in my head why he wasn’t in his usual attire. Roman open and closed his fingers, then continued to walk toward the ring to speak to the WWE Universe.

We are just days away from Evolution, the first ever all-women’s pay-per-view in WWE.

I can’t believe that I get to share a locker room this Sunday with women from the past and present of WWE. Women like Ronda Rousey, the Bella Twins, Michelle McCool, Trish Stratus, Lita, Tori Wilson, Mickie James, Alicia Fox, Alexa Bliss, Kairi Sane, Shayna Baszler, Carmella, Toni Storm, Rhea Rhipley, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Dana Brooke, Naomi, Tamina, Nia Jax, Peyton Royce, Billie Kaye, Lana, Asuka, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville and so many more. The list is long!

There are two women I am especially excited to be working with, my Evolution tag team partners Sasha Banks and Bayley. I couldn’t think of two women better to have my back against the Riott Squad (our opponents at Evolution). They are true students of the game.

I got the chance to talk to Sasha and Bayley backstage at Raw about their careers thus far. I asked them when they first knew that making it to WWE was their dream.

“I knew at that age of 10,” said Sasha. “I was just scrolling through channels, saw that WWE was on, and I instantly became hooked. My heart was drawn to the TV and I knew ever since then that this is what I was meant to do.”

Leading up to Evolution, WWE’s first all-women’s pay-per-view on Oct. 28, I’ve been dedicating the space in this column to female WWE Superstars who’ve changed the game, influenced my career and still have people talking about them.

When the current female WWE Superstars are asked “Who was that woman who made you want to do this?” so many of the girls answer with the same name, “Lita.”

Lita was, quite frankly, a trailblazer. She was the first woman to break down barriers by being different from other women in WWE. She didn’t just break them down, she flew over them, put them through tables and downright destroyed them. Lita was the perfect blend of pretty and punk, Lucha with a gothic edge and a high-flyer who could take on anyone, anytime, anyplace. She truly was ahead of her time.

When I watched Lita in Raw’s main event with Trish Stratus in 2004, I was in awe of both women. I had grown up around some pretty incredible male superstars in the Hart family, but I was captivated watching Trish and Lita steal the show. Here were these two talented, powerful women in a male-dominated world, and they were kicking butt! I wanted to be just like them. They made it cool to embrace blood, sweat and tears in order to pave the way for women like myself to compete in WWE today.

I had a chance to talk to Lita (Amy Dumas) backstage at Raw recently. Being so different and cutting edge, I asked her how it feels to have been such a big part in changing the face of women’s wrestling.

“I think the Attitude Era had a lot to do with trying new things and seeing what worked. I don’t think anyone thought the fans would respond to me the way they did. I completely attribute the fans’ response in what allowed me to continue to explore my uncharted path at WWE.”
