 About this Wonderful Lady!
Mini Bio: From the moment she first came before the WWE Universe, Natalya realized that competing in WWE was a gift, one she would utilize to its fullest extent. Of course, being trained in the legendary Hart Family Dungeon alongside a few famous family members didn't hurt either. Despite a profound desire to forge her own path, there's no denying that Natalya possesses the "hart" to reach new heights in the ring. Whether creating havoc as part of The Hart Dynasty, executing the family Sharpshooter or stepping out on her own to capture the Divas Championship, the fiery third-generation Diva has shown time-and-time again that the legendary Pink & Black legacy is safe in her hands. With the new season of Total Divas quickly approaching on Wednesday, November 1, I feel like I need to spill the “tea” (as the kids are saying these days) and give my thoughts on seven seasons of the hit series.

I’ve been on Total Divas since the very beginning, which has included nearly 100 episodes. I have so much love for this show because I’ve been on it from day one when we weren’t sure if it would ever make it past the first season.

This year, Total Divas marches on with a cast of nine fierce and fearless women who are determined to demolish outdated stereotypes of what women can be and achieve. Nikki and Brie Bella, Naomi, Lana, Maryse, Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, Carmella, and I are the unapologetically ambitious, feisty, and glamorous cast of the new season of Total Divas.

Nikki and Brie Bella have been two of my closest friends in WWE since we started together in the developmental system nearly ten years ago. There’s really nothing the twins and I haven’t been through together, and we have shared laughter and tears like sisters. This season we see the Bellas in new roles outside of the ring. Brie finally has her beautiful little girl Birdie to show off to the world and Nikki takes brave steps outside the ring to pursue new dreams. I am extremely proud of them both.

I wondered in my head what clinch meant because quite frankly, baseball isn’t my world. I would learn that in this game, if the Red Sox won, they were going to be going to the playoffs. No pressure, right?!

If that weren’t enough, allow me to set the stage a bit for you.

A crowd of 37,000 was in attendance —GULP! They were all gonna watch little old me throw a baseball to Boston’s Blake Swihart, while representing the WWE. That all seems simple enough, despite the fact that a quick YouTube search of ceremonial pitches reveals a host of embarrassing efforts by some of the most famous people on Earth, some viewed millions of times. Also, never search YouTube to research something you’re about to do!

I am, however, a Hart. You know, that whole “best there is, best there was, best there ever will be” thing?!

I had only one dilemma: I hadn’t thrown a baseball since I was eight years old. Come to think of it, I’m can’t even be sure that what I threw when I was eight was even a baseball. It could have been a softball for all I remember!

Leading up to the big day, I had hemmed and hawed for several days in anticipating of throwing out this pitch. I contemplated practising in my backyard with my dad. I mean, he did earn his nickname (Anvil) for his world-class throwing skills (that, you should Google).

Alas, the practice never saw the light of day. I had to stay on the road and work and wasn’t able to make it home. The game was fast approaching and I was about to throw out the first pitch in one of the most famed baseball stadiums of all time. Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb played in Fenway Park. Again, No pressure!

Come game day, and minus any practice whatsoever, the second I walked into the stadium, I was trying to hide my nervousness and anticipation from the Boston Red Sox representative who was with me and Jen, the WWE representative who escorted me. They asked me if I had practised and I debated in my head whether I should say “Oh my dad and I practiced for hours in my backyard.” But all I could muster up was the truth: “You know, I haven’t been home to practice at all.”

I have competed against The Nature Girl, Charlotte Flair, for the NXT Women’s Championship, the Divas Championship, the Raw Women’s Championship and now we are about to lock horns for my title, THE Smackdown Women’s Championship.

Every time we have faced one another before, I’ve always been the underdog and the challenger. Now the tables have turned. I’m the resident “bad girl” in the WWE and Smackdown Live is my kingdom! Charlotte has been used to that role herself in the past, being the “mean Queen.” Trust me, I’ve faced her wrath and so has the rest of the women’s division on Raw and Smackdown!

But the past is in the past and since the second generation beauty has joined the “blue side” on Smackdown Live, she’s certainly shown a softer side. Charlotte has become a fan favourite with her fancy moves, awesome agility in the ring, beautiful robes and “wooooo’s” just like her iconic superstar father, Ric Flair. (By the way, I still can’t WOOOO to save my life! Trust me, I’ve tried.)

Charlotte is an opponent who I feel is one of my soulmates in the ring. Ever since the first moment we locked up, it’s just been magic. We push each other to our limits and we are both super competitive in the way that we drive each other to be our very best. When I’m in the ring against her, I think about our families, all of the ups and downs and bumps and bruises we have shared and what our families have shared. After all, my uncle, Bret (The Hitman) Hart won his first WWE title after defeating Ric Flair! I also think about our great triumphs. Both of us have had huge victories and successes as Superstars in the WWE.

While we’re very clearly foes inside the squared circle, outside of it, we have a mutual respect and admiration for one another. I believe that to be the healthy way to approach any relationship.

I was on a tour bus headed to the airport in Hong Kong, after our Smackdown Live tour of Hawaii, Japan and China when I heard about the passing of the iconic Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. Every WWE Superstar on the bus seemed genuinely affected by the passing of Heenan, one of the greatest wrestling personalities of all time.

For me, growing up in the ‘80s, surrounded by a big wrestling family, Heenan’s unmistakable voice could always be heard coming from our TV set. His character and voice were a part of my childhood because wrestling was always on the TV in our house, especially with my younger cousin Harry around.

Harry’s dad was the late great British Bulldog and Harry, above any other family member of mine, was the main reason why I was put in headlocks as a kid! Harry made sure we all knew Bobby Heenan was a “weasel” … as he would impersonate the voices of Howard Finkel, Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper and of course the greatest wrestling manager of all time: Bobby Heenan. Nobody played their bad guy role quite like Bobby. And growing up, Bobby inspired a huge generation of wrestling characters to become larger-than-life because of his influence.

Bobby had such an incredible career, one that spanned four decades. He started in the wrestling business in 1965 in Indiana, worked in the American Wrestling Association from 1974-84 and then in World Wrestling Entertainment from 1984 to the end of 1993. After that, he was in World Championship Wrestling from 1994 to 2000.

Heenan would go on to manage some of the most prestigious names in wrestling; icons like Andre the Giant, Nick Bockwinkel, the Brain Busters, Mr. Perfect, King Kong Bundy, Big John Studd and Rick Rude, to name a few. In many ways, Heenan helped cement the careers of those now legends. He had a way of being a showman and he made a spectacle of himself as the kind of bad guy everyone wanted to see get “put in his place!” But Bobby also had this uncanny ability to elevate the superstar he was managing and make each performer feel like they were larger than life. Bobby made you believe every single word he uttered, every threat he made or every catchphrase he created, both as a manager and commentator. There is no higher praise or greater skill in this business.

Bobby had the complete respect of his peers.

I’ve been through Florida’s heavy rainstorms before and I’ve even been through some sizable hurricanes, but nothing like Irma. It developed into a Category 5 hurricane, bringing with destructive winds that topped 185-plus miles per hour, becoming one of the largest and most powerful hurricanes ever recorded. The hurricane spanned roughly 400 miles in width, which was bigger than the state of Florida itself. And for all the destruction it wrought, it delivered just as much fear and worry.

Before it even reached Florida, Irma devastated the Caribbean. The tiny island of Barbuda was nearly wiped out, leaving it uninhabitable. It is heartbreaking.

As we were waiting to learn where Irma would make landfall in North America, it felt surreal. It was a race against the clock preparing for a storm that was days away from us and that could potentially destroy our homes and everything we’ve worked for. More than that though, many of my family and friends live in Florida and I wanted them to be safe. That was my top priority.

In the days leading up Irma’s arrival, there was so much to do. I felt grateful and lucky that I had a few days to prepare for this storm, but I also felt this lingering uncertainty over what was going to happen when the storm finally hit. Many questions ran through my mind: how big was the storm going to be when it arrived? Will my house flood? Will the strong wind take my roof off? Will there be tornadoes? Will my family and animals be safe? Should we evacuate? Where do we go? And if we do evacuate, will there be enough gas to get to a safe place, since everyone will be trying to leave Florida at the same time? Gas and water were supplies that were scarce but necessary, especially if there was a mandatory evacuation of our homes.

One of the most rewarding benefits of being a WWE Superstar are the many community outreach programs that we participate in.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, to touch someone’s life in a time of need, even just for a few moments, makes everything we do in WWE worthwhile.

WWE has partnerships with the Special Olympics, Susan G. Komen, Make-A-Wish, Boys and Girls Club of America, and several other organizations.

One of the most special partnerships to me personally is a foundation that was started within WWE named Connor’s Cure.

Connor’s Cure was developed by Stephanie McMahon and her husband, Paul (Triple H) Levesque, in 2014 to support pediatric brain and spinal cord cancer research.

Connor’s Cure was the perfect way to honour the memory of a little boy named Connor Michalek. Connor was an 8-year-old boy who was fighting for his life, battling medulloblastoma, a rare tumour that affects the brain and spinal cord. Connor was not only a huge WWE fan, but someone that we in WWE will always consider part of our family.
