Christmas has always been one of my favourite times of year. This year, I decorated my Christmas tree the first week of November because I love how happy the holidays make me. Even though it was challenging with the pandemic, we were able to pick out a real Christmas tree and I love the way it makes my whole house smell good. My sister, Jenni, makes dozens of homemade Christmas cookies from recipes my aunt Georgia passed down. Everything from lemon bars, gingerbread cookies, chocolate bit squares and my favourite, her sugar cookie snowmen. I love homemade anything! My mom sews many of our Christmas ornaments by hand and every year we add her artwork to our tree. I have ornaments that my mom made for me when I was a little girl and love seeing them every year to reminisce about Christmas’s that have passed. We listen to Christmas music, light candles and watch our favourite Christmas movies like Home Alone, Elf and Prancer.
I’m not the only WWE Superstar that loves Christmas. There’s also Mick Foley, who dresses up as Santa year-round, which gives us more reasons to love him. Mick said: “I do have a full-time, year-round Christmas room where I like to spend my time, and I’ve been known to play many a Christmas Carol in the heat of the summer. I love the idea that people seem kinder, gentler and more patient leading up to Christmas. I think now, more than ever, kindness matters! And when I think of Christmas, I think of kindness.”
Mick is right. Now more than ever, kindness matters. So does compassion, gratitude and giving back. This year has been a year full of incredible highs and lows. I’m proud of all of us because we’ve found a way to keep moving forward during these difficult times. We’ve found ways to adapt, change and continue to grow. For some of us, doors have closed and new doors have opened. Even if you’re terrible with technology like me, we’ve all become more resourceful about how we communicate with each other and how we stay connected. Whatever it takes to keep moving forward.
