With the holidays in full swing and 2020 coming to a close, there is so much to be said about staying positive during such a challenging year. One thing that’s helped me stay positive is focusing on WWE, which is holding its annual TLC event this Sunday on WWE Network. This is one of my favourite events of the year because I consider myself a “tables” specialist, having competed in a few pretty memorable tables matches myself.
TLC is also one of my favourite shows of the year because I’ve had so much incredible history competing at previous events. We call it “Tables, Ladders and Chairs” for a reason, and two of my hardest fought battles in WWE involved Tables Matches. I was in the first-ever women’s tables match at TLC 2010 with Beth Phoenix as my tag team partner. We took on the team of Michelle McCool and Layla. Beth and I dodged going through tables so many times in the match and there were some close calls for sure! For those of you who may not know, if you get put through a table, you lose. I remember fighting tooth and nail to push Michelle and Layla off the top rope and through the table together at the same time. They both tried their best to give me a suplex through the table, but one shove sent them crashing instead, but low and behold, the table didn’t break when they both landed on it. In front of over 14,000 people in the arena and millions watching at home, I had to make a decision on my feet. How was I going to break this table with two girls laying on top of it? I stood up on the top turnbuckle and jumped with all of my might on top of Michelle and Layla and the table smashed in half! I was so relieved because I did not have a game plan after that. My splash off the top rope, onto LayCool (and a table that had their images on it) needed to work and it did! It was one of my favourite moments in WWE.
Then there was the Tables Match I had with Ruby Riott in 2018. Ruby had been antagonizing me all year with her teammates, The Riott Squad, and I ended up getting to do another Tables Match at TLC in an attempt to put Ruby in her place. Prior to this match, Ruby put me through a table on Monday Night Raw. If you’ve never been slammed through a table, let me be the first to tell you, it hurts a lot. I definitely needed some revenge on Ruby and was excited to step in the ring against her. The match led to me powerbombing Ruby off of the top rope and through a table for the win and victory never felt sweeter!
