Whether creating havoc as part of The Hart Dynasty, executing the family Sharpshooter or stepping out on her own to capture the Divas Championship, the fiery third-generation Diva has shown time-and-time again that the legendary Pink & Black legacy is safe in her hands. Calgary Sun Article/Interview with Natalya – 10/8/2020

I had a chance this week to watch an awesome documentary on WWE Network about Drew McIntyre, titled “The Chosen One.” After watching it, I thought about how powerful Drew McIntyre’s story is, especially during this climate where we are all facing extraordinary challenges. Our WWE Champion doesn’t have a story out of a fairytale. Drew has a story that’s really focused on having everything and then losing it. He had to climb his way back to the top and learn through experience that every lesson is a blessing. I really wanted to help share Drew’s story because it inspired me so much.

I was able to catch up with Drew. I asked him about his debut in WWE in 2007 and his release in 2014 and how this affected him personally. Drew said, “I wouldn’t be the performer or man I am today without falling down. As difficult as things were at times, the fall forced me to learn some important life lessons and be introspective along the way. The rise aspect is important because it speaks to the classic redemption story that, if you work hard enough, nothing is impossible. I was always in prominent positions during my early wrestling years leading into ‘the chosen one’ storyline. I like to think of my fall as going from a cool, James Bond character to the embarrassing comedy sidekick. Not very many people believed it was possible for me to ever reach the top, but wrestling was my one real passion in life. I genuinely believed, and still do, that if you have passion, an unmatched work ethic, and a strong support system you are unstoppable.”

I also wanted to know what helped Drew gain perspective during his darkest moments in WWE. According to Drew: “Being released triggered me to look inward and helped me gain perspective both inside and outside of the ring. I had to really look at myself and identify areas that needed improvement. I also had to allow myself to let go, instead of numbing the pain and trying to forget about everything I had suffered in my personal life. In trying to distract myself outside of the ring, I had lost a lot of my passion for the business, and I wasn’t putting in the work needed to be successful. Recognizing my own weaknesses was one of the hardest things I had to do but it was necessary for me to turn things around. The one constant light in my life is my wife, Kaitlyn. She always believed I could be a better wrestler and a better man. She helped me build and improve myself. Even though she didn’t know anything about wrestling, she believed in me and thought I was capable of so much more. Today, I am proud to say we are a team, and without her support, I am not WWE Champion.”
